David Wilfred Abse (1914 – November 4, 2005) was a Welsh psychiatrist.

He was born in Cardiff, a brother of the poet Dannie Abse (born 1923) and the politician Leo Abse (1917-2008). An eminent psychoanalyst who spent the greater part of his career in Charlottesville, Virginia, Abse was known for his work in group therapy and hysteria. When asked by his brother Dannie Abse whether a book about psychiatry was any good, Wilfred said, 'If I'm not in the index, it's no good'."
