William J. Slocum (1884 – May 6, 1943) was an American sports writer who spent more than twenty years covering baseball in New York newspapers.[1]
Slocum started his sports writing career in 1917. Among other things he was a ghostwriter for Babe Ruth.[2] He was one of the organizers of the New York chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America.[1] The BBWAA Chapter honored Slocum in 1930 by naming an award after him, which is presented annually to a person judged to have given long and meritorious service to baseball.[2]
