William James (1858 – date of death unknown) was an English cricketer who made one appearance in first-class cricket in 1881.

James made his only appearance in first-class cricket when he was selected to play for Kent against Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) at Lord's.[1] In a match which MCC won by 216 runs, James was dismissed without scoring in both of Kent's innings', dismissed leg before by William Mycroft in the first-innings, and bowled by the same bowler in the second-innings.[2]
