Wim Blockmans
Wim Pieter Blockmans (b. 1945, Antwerp, Belgium) is Professor of Medieval History at Leiden University. He earned a Ph.D. from the University of Ghent. He has been Rector of the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study since September 2002. He published Emperor Charles V 1500-1558 (London 2002), and Introduction to Medieval Europe 300-1550, (London/New York 2007) 372 pp.: Revised translation of: Eeuwen des Onderscheids. Geschiedenis van de Europese middeleeuwen, (Amsterdam 2002) (in coll. with P. Hoppenbrouwers), 476 pp. (third print 2007) as well as many other books on late medieval and early modern state power.
He is member of the British Academy, the Royal Historical Society, Academia Europaea, Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences,[1] foreign member of the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Science and the Arts (Koninklijke Vlaamse Academie van België voor Wetenschappen en Kunsten) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Verfassungsgeschichte. He is also an Advisory Board member of the Institute for Historical Justice and Reconciliation.
