Zavadovskiy Island (66°43′S 86°24′E / 66.717°S 86.400°E / -66.717; 86.400) is an ice-covered island in the West Ice Shelf near Antarctica. It rises to 200 m and is located 12 miles east of Mikhaylov Island. It was discovered by the Soviet expedition of 1956 which named it for Ivan Zavadovskiy, second in command of the sloop Vostok in the Bellingshausen expedition in 1819-21.

Zavadovskiy Island featured in the initial part of BBC’s Planet Earth II natural history television series, narrated by David Attenborough and first shown in the UK on 6 November 2016. The programme described in film life in the harsh environment for the 1.5 million Chinstrap penguins – the largest penguin colony in the world.
