Currently on this thread at Tree World a review of the many terms here at Wikipedia is underway. There are debates taking place outside of Wiki with regard to pages on arbor related issues, the terminology and definitions.
As a climbing arborist, consulting arborist and regular tree worker I do have a good grasp of what an arborists role is, and will be actively here and at the forum to help make some sense out of it for regular readers.
I see conflict with definitions, from logging to forestry and gardeners/landscapers etc however an arborists role is a precise one like many other specialists. If collectively the infighting on what an arborist is cannot be resolved then there's no option but to detail the variances so when a consumer calls an arborist up they get one that can do the job at hand ... whether that be climbing and rigging down a tree slated for removal or diagnoses a problem to reporting on trees for retention at development sites.
