About the Residency[edit]As of August 2017, the Scottish Library and Information Council is hosting a Wikimedian in Residence, in order to advance Open Knowledge objectives in Scotland's public libraries. Sara Thomas held the post of Wikimedian at SLIC from August 2017 until April 2018, seeing the project through Phase 1 of the residency and laying the ground for Phase 2. Phase 1 of the residency ran from August 2017 - January 2018. This phase included advocacy & engagements with key stakeholder groups, the training of Phase 1 partners, a public library content audit, and at least one editathon. The second phase of the residency will run from February 2018, in which the programme of engagement will be extended out to other public library services in Scotland. Starting in May 2018, Delphine Dallison has taken over the post of Wikimedian in Residence and will continue to pursue the Phase 2 objectives in collaboration with Sara Thomas in her new position as Scotland Programme Coordinator for the Wikimedia UK Foundation. Aims & Objectives[edit]The residency will aim to establish public libraries as quality content creators in the digital sphere, and to provide open access to freely usable content about Scottish culture, derived from our rich library collections. The residency aims to establish a culture of quality digital content creation in public libraries by supporting library staff and users to engage in Wikimedia projects, including Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons.
