The 2012 Sudan-South Sudan border conflict started on March 26 2012 with clashes between the two countries over oil-rich region. According to South Sudan, Southern forces took over the key oil field of Heglig, parts of which are claimed by both sides, while northern forces attacked the disputed areas of Jau and Pan Akuach, and Teshwin inside South Sudan. Sudan's army confirmed fighting in the border area of Sudan's South Kordofan region. It has been described as the biggest fighting betweeen the two countries since the south's independence in July 2011.[1]
