Gasteranthus extinctus is a species of flowering plant in the family Gesneriaceae. It is endemic to Ecuador. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.[1]
On April 15, 2022, the plant was rediscovered in South America at the foothills of the Andes mountains, and in patches of forest in the Centinela region of Ecuador, almost 40 years after it was last sighted.[2] The study of the flower's rediscovery was published by the PhytoKeys journal and the Field Museum in Chicago.[3][4]
