Aradhana Misra (born 20 April 1974), also known as Mona Misra, is an Indian politician and member of 18th Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh[1] representing Rampur Khas of Pratapgarh district in Uttar Pradesh as a member of Indian National Congress. She is the daughter of senior Congress leader and Member of Rajya Sabha[2] Pramod Tiwari.

She is a Business Management professional with over 25 years of extensive experience, at present serving as a Director of Ambalika Group and running a NGO called Saryu Samaj Kalyan Sansthan.

She was serving as the CLP leader in the Vidhan Sabha of U.P. She has been an active social worker for over 25 years and has done considerable work in rural belt of the Pratapgarh district of U.P. She was drawn to social work early in her life under the inspiring guidance of her father, Pramod Tiwari who was a lawmaker in the U.P.-state assembly for a record nine terms and also a member of the upper house (Rajya Sabha) of the Indian Parliament. He is currently a special invitee to the CWC, the highest decision-making body of the Congress. Her selfless social work has been recognized by the people of Pratapgarh, as reflected in the fact that she has won three straight terms to the state assembly of U.P., India's most populous and politically most crucial state. Her victory has hit national and international headlines because even as her political alma mater did not make it big, she scored a perfect hattrick in her assembly constituency.

In recognition of her exemplary work in uplifting the weaker, marginalized and the oppressed sections of society and women empowerment, she was appointed on the Board of Directors of Punjab National Bank, which she resigned after her election to Vidhan Sabha. Her social work over last 20 years has been lauded at various national and international forums. She has been awarded many times for her contribution to society by way of her commitment to social causes by the Governor of U.P., Central Ministers, President of Mauritius and many other recognized bodies.

Professional experience

She worked as Director of Electronics and Print Media at an eminent media outlet for eleven years. Ms. Misra learnt the intricacies of electronics media and dynamism of Print Media here and this rich experience helped her shaping the destiny of millions in her constituency, later during her political career.

Details of selfless involvement

Social work

  • Elected member of Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha on 16 May 2014, as a member of Indian National Congress from Rampur Khas assembly constituency, Distt. Pratapgarh, U.P. with an unprecedented margin of votes.
  • Retained her seat during 2017 Elections on INC ticket in spite of a wave which swept the state of Uttar Pradesh in the opposite direction. 
  • Reelected as MLA from Rampur Khas for the third straight term in 2022.
  • During her first tenure as MLA, was declared MLA of the Year by the MLA report Card committee.
  • Elected by the council as member of the Committee Relating to Examination of Audit Reports of the Local Bodies of the State in 2017
  • Nominated by the speaker of the House as a member of Joint Committee Relating to Women and Child Welfare in 2014 for three years.
  • Nominated by the speaker of the House as a member of Joint committee Relating to local body committee 2017 till date
  • Appointed Leader of Congress Legislature Party of Utter Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, 2019.
  • Appointed General Secretary of U.P. Pradesh Congress Committee in 2016
  • Elected Vice President of U.P. Badminton Association in 2014 and was re-elected to the same position in 2018
  • Working as president of Saryu Samaj Kalyan Sansthan, a registered NGO since 1994 till date.
  • Guided the NGO in the field of cooperative movement and promoted several women self-help groups in Uttar Pradesh, benefiting several hundred women of weaker sections of the society.

Cooperative movement

1.  1997-2002

Worked as the Head (Chairperson) of the Sahakari Sangh, Samgramgarh, Pratapgarh, UP, where she effectively executed the following activities

  • Promotion and creation of cooperative bodies in rural agriculture areas of the district
  • Procurement and distribution of Agro-fertilizers through the cooperative bodies
  • Development, Procurement and distribution of quality seeds for crop cultivation
  • Management of Micro finance for the cooperatives
  • Creating linkages with the lead bankers for micro finance activities of the district
  • Procurement and distribution of control cloth to rural population through cooperative movement
  • Procurement and distribution of rations and food grains to weaker sections through the cooperative movement
  • Development of Micro self-sustainable rural industries such as brick kilns
  • Promotion of entrepreneurship among rural economy based on local produce for local consumption such as organic and bio fertilizers.
  • Partnered with Rural Credit institutions for growth of rural economy of the region
  • Created a pool of job opportunities through promotion of small and micro enterprises in the non-farm sector to reverse the migration by making rural living more attractive

2.  2002–present

Elected Block Pramukh for 3 consecutive terms (2002-2007, 2207-2012 and 2012 till 2014 – tenure till 2017) of Rampur, Sangramgarh block, Pratapgarh, U.P.

As Block Pramukh she had performed the following functions over 11 years:

  • Creating linkages with nationalized banks for boosting rural economy of the block by providing credits and micro finance.
  • Supervision of MNREGA providing rural development and employment to rural population under the Government of India flag ship program.
  • Supervision of PMGSRY (Pradhan Mantri Grameen Sadak Rozgar Yojna. Under the scheme over 200 kms. of rural roads were constructed during her tenure and provided means of livelihood to several thousand rural population
  • Effectively monitored several Government welfare schemes of pensions for poor, disabled and widows of the block under Vidhva Pension, Vidhvaa Pension and Viklang pension schemes
  • Intensively involved with Antyodaya work providing food to poorest of the poor.
  • Providing housing to poorest of the population under the Indra Aawas Yojna. During her continued tenure several thousand poor benefited from the scheme
  • Promoting inclusive growth and equitable distribution of resources and their accruing benefit for every sector of the society through all above efforts
  • Creating self-help groups of women in various fields of agriculture produce and dairy farming

Agriculture

Managing an agriculture farm of over 100 acres on the outskirts of Lucknow owned by the family.

The farm contributes substantially to agriculture produce including crops, fruits and dairy products, while providing employment to over 100 workers.

Education and background

She received a Bachelor’s degree in commerce from Allahabad University in 1997 and completed Master of Business Administration. She completed post-graduation in Human Rights from the Institute of Human Rights, Delhi. Aradhana Misra alias Mona hails from a political background. Her father, Pramod Tiwari is a senior leader of Indian National Congress, who has been elected nine times consecutively as MLA from Rampur Khas assembly constituency in Pratapgarh, and he is the Member of Rajya Sabha[2] (upper house).

Political career

Aradhana Misra is associated with Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee and is a member since 2000. She was earlier elected as Block Pramukh (chief) from Pratapgarh district of Uttar Pradesh for consecutive three terms,[3] winning the elections 2001–2006, 2006–2011, and 2011 to 2016. She is a member of Uttar Pradesh state Monitoring and Vigilance Committee, MNEREA under the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India. She was an active member of the Media Campaign Committee 2012 Uttar Pradesh election and had devised the media strategy for Congress party and Rahul Gandhi.[4]

In the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Legislative assembly election Aradhana Mishra defeated her nearest BJP rival by a margin of 14,741 votes from the Rampur Khas constituency in Pratapgarh district.[5] This is her third consecutive victory as an MLA.

  • Awarded “MLA of the Year” in the year 2014 during the MLA Report Card activity given by Hon’ble Mata Prasad Pandey Speaker U.P. Legislative Assembly.
  • Awarded “Pt. Jagdish Narayan Misra Prerna Sammam Award” given by Hon’ble Governor of U.P., respected Sri B. L. Joshi ji on 17.11.2009 for the Special Contribution in the field of Journalism & Social Work.
  • Awarded “Purvaiya Ratna Samman Award” given by Hon’ble President of Mauritius, respected Anerood Jugnauth on 03.12.2009 for the Special Contribution in the field of Social Work.
  • Awarded “ShikshaBhartiPuraskar Award” given by Hon’ble Central State Minister, respected Sri Salmaan Khurshid ji on 27.05.2010 in the field of Rural & Urban education amongst the weaker sections of the society.
  • Awarded “Ananta Women's Achiever Award” in the field of Young Politician/Social Work in the years 2009-2010.
  • Awarded “Smriti Award” for the work of upliftment of physically disabled people in the years 2007-2008.
  • Awarded “Marg-Darshini” for spreading the rural education amongst the weaker sections of the society in the eastern region of Uttar Pradesh.
