Arnolfo "Arnie" A. Teves Jr. (born August 10, 1971) is a Filipino politician. A member of the Nationalist People's Coalition, he currently serves as a member of the Philippine House of Representatives representing the 3rd District of Negros Oriental since 2016. He served as a Deputy Speaker of the Philippine House of Representatives from December 7, 2020, until June 1, 2022.

Political career

In 2016, Teves was elected member of the Philippine House of Representatives representing the 3rd District of Negros Oriental. He was re-elected in 2019 and in 2022.

Congressional career

In the 19th Congress, Teves filed a bill seeking to rename Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to Ferdinand E. Marcos International Airport in honor of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos.[1][2] Teves also filed House Bill No. 611, seeking to declare ghosting as an emotional offense which was met with generally negative reception.[3]

Personal life

Teves is a self-confessed recovering drug addict.[4] He is the older brother of Pryde Henry Teves, also a politician.

In March 2022, Teves' then 24-year-old son Kurt Matthew Teves was caught on video and went viral after he beat up and challenged a village security guard to a shootout. The attack started when the guard told Kurt Teves that they are not allowed to enter the premises of BF Homes Parañaque since his car does not have a residential sticker. Teves insisted that his family owns a property inside the subdivision, however, the guard told Teves that another gate is open for those who do not have a residential sticker but a motorist entering the said subdivision should leave an identification card. Teves left the scene and returned with his companions onboard another vehicle and mauled the guard.[5] At the time of the incident, Kurt Teves is the barangay captain of Barangay Malabugas in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental, and is a board member of Negros Oriental since he is the president of the provincial Association of Barangay Captains league. Kurt Teves issued a public apology days after the incident and announced his resignation as provincial board member. Teves immediately stepped down from his post following the announcement.[6] The homeowners' association of BF Homes filed charges against Teves, however, the security guard has not been appearing on hearings and sessions, and is reportedly in hiding.[7]
