Bongani Mawethu Mayosi is a South African cardiology professor who was awarded his county's highest honor, the Order of Mapungubwe (Silver) in 2009.[1] He is the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Cape Town. Prior to this, he was head of the Department of Medicine at the University of Cape Town and Groote Schuur Hospital.[2] His father was a medical doctor and so is his wife; his research interests include Rheumatic fever, Tuberculous pericarditis and Cardiomyopathy.[3][4] He is a member of the Academy of Science of South Africa and a former President of the College of Physicians of South Africa [5]
