The last president of the Republic of Texas was Anson Jones, Anson is the county seat of government of Jones County Texas, a farming and ranching part of the country, For the best part of its history, it was a dry county, because of the high content of people with part native american blood, however in the 50's you could drive to Stamford Texas and Buy Beer from Dora, a black boot legger, or you could cross the clear fork of the Brazos River and drive up the hill and Buy wiskey from Humpy Holder. The sheriff of Jones County used to watch for boot leggers importing beer, he could tell by the car sitting lower to the ground.
