These two categories are nearly identical, so that most entries and subcategories appear in both, and in fact both are subcategories of each other. I think that "sail" and "sailing" have identical meanings, but I could be wrong about that. I suggest category:Sail be deleted, and all entries that aren't already there be merged into Category:Sailing.--Mike Selinker 16:06, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup of sub-categories

I thought I ought to leave a short message here making note of the fact that I just spent an hour or so cleaning out all of the excess, inapt sub-categories that were cluttering this category. I reduced the total number of sub-cats from 50 down to 23, which includes one new sub-cat that I added. The majority of these excess sub-cats had been added, wrongly, by a single editor. In many cases they were already listed under other sub-cats of Category:Sailing, and should not have been redundantly listed as direct sub-cats; many others simply did not belong under this category at all, as they pertained to broader aspects of water transport. Lastly, I moved Category:Sailing ships up to the head of the sub-cats so readers will be sure to find it very easily.

Considering how important navigation is to sailing, this should greatly assist readers in navigating the contents of this category. Cgingold (talk) 03:52, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
