I reverted your change because eponymous categories aren't strictly maintenance categories. Practically every eponymous category is linked to the the topic is covers. The reasoning is the same for all the other categories I restored and the discussion on Category_talk:Political_families_of_the_United_States#Political_families_are_not_politicians. I understand you reverted. I think it is reasonable to state that it is either a maintenance category or it isn't. If it isn't then remove the template. I will try not to discuss the issue of eponymous categories that is under discussion elsewhere already, per WP:SEETALK. Regarding the maintenance category that also serves other purposes, this is just confusing because of the stated reasons, although I understand some templates' documentation need clarification. I agree that its very confusing. I've seriously contemplated editing the template/creating a new one that just applies for eponymous categories. My take is that the instructions are helpful for 99% of categories. idk. Do you think that would help? Mason (talk) 01:27, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think it would be helpful to have a discussion on proper guidance on how to deal with maintenance categories that also have content categories as members and whether they should have these latter.
