Re World War II sites “in” countries, I suggest that they can continue to be sorted by first letter and will change the heading.
Re World War sites “of” the major belligerents beyond their boundaries, I agree that it should be used only for fixtures like bases in other countries, otherwise every one of the hundreds (thousands?) of battles could be listed by each of the two or more participants. Perhaps I can emphasise this in heading. And will remove some countries included here (Malaysia, Phillipines). Leave in Wake Island, but doubtful about the Marshalls and Northern Marianas – just list articles about particular American or Japanese bases on the islands.
