Conway Public Schools
Conway Public Schools is a school district located in Conway, Arkansas.
Conway Public Schools serves the city of Conway, Arkansas, located in Faulkner County, Arkansas.
Conway High School has a very successful athletic department. In 2010, the Wampus Cat football team took home the 7A conference championship. Also, winning the Arkansas State Championship in 2011 was baseball, wrestling and girl's soccer.
Conway HS has a strong band program, with many students making all state band. In the 2011 War Memorial "Showcase of Bands" marching contest, the Wampus Cat Marching Band received the Brandon Award, the contest's highest award.
With more than 9,200 students, Conway Public School District is the eighth largest in Arkansas. The district has 15 schools, including one high school on two campuses, two middle schools, two intermediate schools, nine elementary schools and a preschool program. In 2012, Conway Public Schools will open a new elementary school and complete reconstruction of Conway High School West
- In 2011, 13 Conway High Graduates were National Merit Scholars. (3rd in the state)
- Conway finished 2nd out of the state's 40 largest school districts on the statewide benchmark exams. Conway ranked 14th out of all 247 Arkansas school districts.
- Of the more than 500 public elementary schools in Arkansas, Conway has three campuses in the top 15.
- More than half of the teaching staff at Conway Public Schools have at least a master's degree.
- The district has 35 National Board certified teachers
- The ACT composite score for the 2011 graduating class was 22.6 (national average is 21)
Wampus Cat The Wampus Cat is a mythical creature that normally is portrayed as a cougar that can stand upright but this mascot is a variation of this with six arms to, "four to run at the speed of light and two to fight with all its might." Their statue portrays the cat as being blue also.
