Doroteo Jose LRT Station is a station on the Manila LRT Yellow Line (LRT-1). Like all other LRT-1 stations, Doroteo Jose station is above-ground. The station is located in Santa Cruz in Manila, on Rizal Avenue and slightly past Doroteo Jose Street. The station is named after Doroteo Jose Street. After the LRT-1 Extension Project is finished it will become the center of the whole Yellow Line of the LRT.

Doroteo Jose station is the second station of LRT-1 north of the Pasig River, after Carriedo station. It is the twelfth station for trains headed to Baclaran and the eleventh station for trains headed to North Avenue.

The station is near the Manila City Jail, which houses some of Manila's criminals. It is also near the Fabella Memorial Hospital, which is near the jail. Popular shopping centers such as the Isetann shopping center and the Quiapo Bargain Center are also nearby. Due to its position of being near the University Belt, the station is also close to educational institutions of the University Belt.

[edit] Transportation links

Doroteo Jose station serves as the transfer point between LRT-1 and the LRT Purple Line, or LRT-2. The station is connected to Recto station by means of a crossway that was recently constructed.

The station, being near the University Belt of Manila, serves as an important transfer point for buses, taxis and cycle rickshaws, although this role is also being given to the closer Recto station. Buses stop at the bus terminal on C.M. Recto Avenue.

[edit] Childbirth at the station

On May 5, 2005, Lea Aquino Ababa of Pasay City gave birth to a baby girl inside the station on her way to Fabella Memorial Hospital for a checkup, the first time a baby was born and the first time an LRT passenger gave birth inside an LRT station. She was named Dorotea, after the name of the station.
