Rowan Ferguson is an athlete from Somerville, Massachusetts. Ferguson is well-loved in the Somerville community as an Ultimate player, athlete, and leader. “Rowan Day” is an important day to Somerville High School students and alumni.

Rowan Day[edit]

Rowan Day[1] is a large Somerville High School community event held annually on April 13th to celebrate Ferguson’s accomplishments. Every year, the school gets together for festivities like service events, community picnics, and speeches from guest speakers, and the annual winner of the Rowan Ferguson Award for Outstanding Community Contribution is announced. The award is given to a student who exemplifies the legacy and values of Ferguson, especially with their impact in the community.

Early Life[edit]

Rowan began his playing career in 2016, when he participated in the Somerville Middle School Program.

Villen Ultimate[edit]

In 2020, he was placed on the JV Villens, the Somerville High associated developmental club team, where he fostered his talents and love for the game. The following year, Ferguson was named a co-captain of the Villen’s Varsity program[2], a position which he held for the following three years. Through his leadership, the team placed top 3 in the 2022 Massachusetts state high school tournament and won the Amherst Ultimate Invitational Tournament. Ferguson is potentially most remembered for the 2023 Massachusetts State Tournament Incident.

Youth-Club Championship[edit]

In 2022, Ferguson played for the Boston Ultimate Disc Alliance (BUDA) U-17 Youth Club Championship Boys Team[3], at the national tournament in Blaine, Minnesota. In tournament play, he recorded 2 goals, 5 assists, and 8 turnovers.

2023 Massachusetts State Tournament Incident[edit]

Regrettably, Ferguson’s legacy is marked by an incident which occurred during the 2023 Massachusetts State Tournament in which his personal conduct resulted in a set of major disturbances, culminating in Somerville High’s ultimate forfeit of the tournament’s final game.

Track and Field[edit]

Ferguson was a part of the Greater Boston League Cross Country championship winning teams in 2022[4] and 2023.
