Sophia Wysocka (1915 - 2008) was a Polish-born artist based in London.

Life[edit]

Wysocka studied fine art in Poland. She moved to London in the 1940’s with her husband, who served as a Diplomat at the Polish Embassy in London. She continued her art training as an art student at the Tate Gallery in London, and later became employed by the Tate as its main conservator and restorer. She was part of Chelsea Arts Society and exhibited through their circles.

Wysocka was passionate about the impressionist movement and reproduced a number of oil paintings by Degas, Renoir and others. Her inspiration became obvious in her own numerous floral oil paintings. She was in love with floral arrangements and she painted a number of flowers placed in vases. She also painted several self-portraits.

Wysockas work was exhibiting by Chelsea Arts Society until 2005, when she decided to stop painting. She lived her final years in Edith Terrace in Chelsea, London. She died in 2008 at age of 91.
