HISTORY

Wellspring Cancer Support Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by cancer. (1)

Since its founding the foundation has served as a ray of hope for persons facing cancer, offering a variety of services and initiatives to improve their quality of life.

Gibson collaborated with her family, friends, and supporters to develop Wellspring, a non-profit organization that provides cancer patients and their families with psychological, emotional, social, spiritual, and informational support.

Wellspring was founded with the assistance of some of the top oncology specialists.  Gibson's goal for Wellspring was to establish a network of community-based centres across Canada that would offer cancer patients the support and resources they needed at no cost to them.

The Coach House, Wellspring's first centre, opened its doors on Toronto's Wellesley Street East in 1992. (2) Wellspring opened its second location in 1999 on the Sunnybrook & Women's College Health Sciences Centre campus in north Toronto.

Despite Gibson's passing in 1995, her vision continues to direct the organization's expanding network, which currently provides services to families and individuals with cancer across Canada.

Wellspring has maintained its commitment to Gibson's vision by offering a fresh and imaginative approach to comprehensive care for people to enhance their quality of life. Based on the needs of patients and their loved ones, it is a collaborative, neighbourhood endeavour that is intended to support whatever medical treatments patients may be receiving.
