The Government of the 3rd Scottish Parliament was formed after the 2007 elections to the Scottish Parliament. The Scottish Government is headed by First Minister Alex Salmond.

[edit] Salmond government

The Salmond government, which was sworn in on 16 May 2007, is a Scottish National Party minority government.

Having won the largest number of seats in the general election (47 of 129) the SNP sought to form a coalition. After failing to find coalition partners, they chose to go into government without other parties. Alex Salmond was elected First Minister on 16 May 2007; his slate of ministerial appointments^[1] were ratified by the Scottish Parliament the following day.
