The German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, known by the initials BMU from the German name, Bundesministerium für Umwelt, Naturschutz und Reaktorsicherheit, is a ministry of the German federal government. Its headquarters are in Bonn, with a branch in Berlin. The current minister of the environment is Norbert Röttgen, who assumed office on October 28, 2009.

The ministry was established on June 6, 1986 in response to the Chernobyl disaster and formed from departments of the Ministries of the Interior, of Agriculture and of Health.
