Franworks Group of Companies (also called "Franworks") is a Calgary, Alberta based company which owns and operates restaurant concepts[1] in Canada and the United States.[2] They began in 2000 and shifted their focus to restaurants in 2002. In 2016, Recipe Unlimited acquired a majority stake in their restaurant brands. As of 2022, the company has roughly 100 restaurants and five restaurant brands in two countries. With a team of over 50 talented individuals, Franworks works hard to constantly attract and sustain passionate brand fans through guest connection and team fulfillment. Their core values include honest communication, being involved and appreciative of their communities, and creating fun in a safe environment. There are five restaurant brands of Franworks: Original Joe's,[3] State & Main,[4] Elephant and Castle,[5] Añejo[6] and Blanco Cantina.[7]

Original Joe's

Original Joe's (also called "OJ's") was started in 1997 in Calgary, and joined Franworks in 2002. In 2010, OJ's was named one of Canada's 100 Fastest-Growing Companies by Profit Magazine[8] as they opened over 30+ locations. OJ's is currently operating in four provinces with over 55 locations.[9] They are known for their craveable classics, comfort food, friendly team and being Down to Earth and Down the Street. OJ's offers two sides with burgers and handhelds, has delicious dill dip, and holds half-price wine nights. They are a welcoming space with plenty of crowd favourites, happy to pour a beer for anybody who walks through their door.

State & Main

The State & Main brand was developed and launched in 2012, expanding from Western Canada into Guelph, Ontario two years later. Now, State & Main has over 25 locations[10] throughout four provinces. State & Main feels comfortably elevated, bringing a downtown atmosphere for individuals who don't want to drive far. They have a menu full of standout shareables, entrées, craft beers, superior wine selection and hand-crafted cocktails. State & Main is casual that's a cut above, re-creating fan favourites with a unique State spin. Exceptionally easy, engaging, and vibrant, State & Main is the spot for an elevated dining experience.

Elephant and Castle Pub and Restaurant

Elephant and Castle Pub and Restaurant (also called "E&C") is an English pub concept[11] that combines British classics with North American favourites. E&C was named after the eponymous area in London. Starting in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1977 and joining Franworks[12] in 2012, E&C has several establishments across Canada and the United States. Here, soccer is football and chips are crisps. Their pub is charmingly Brith-ish, friendly and slightly rowdy. The welcome mat is always out, the local crew is always in and the game is always on. E&C is casual, but bloody good.

Añejo Restaurant

Añejo Restaurant began on 4th Street, SW, in Calgary, and joined Franworks in 2019. The Añejo brand is growing and working to expand their concept throughout Canada and beyond.[13] Inspired by Jalisco and Central Mexico, Añejo was created to be a slice of paradise for guests. They offer a first-class, exclusive tequila experience with the largest selection of tequila in Canada. They can teach about their high-end agave spirits as guests enjoy elevated Mexican cuisine. Guests at Añejo can even try a $1,200 tequila for $600 at Happy Hour. They are the place to visit to escape from the everyday.

Blanco Cantina

Blanco Cantina became a part of Franworks in 2019. They have a loud, lively and fun atmosphere, mirroring that of an authentic cantina. Their first restaurant opened on 17th Ave, SW, in Calgary. Through the Pandemic, Blanco Cantina was able to open four additional locations over two provinces. They opened an Edmonton, Alberta location, and are continuing to grow throughout Canada.[14] Blanco Cantina has a great #HalfyHour every day, twice a day, offering half price tequila and cheap tacos. They also make Take Home Margarita Kits and give five flavours for guests to choose from. With bright Latin flavours and refreshing drinks, Blanco Cantina is a great place to catch up with friends.
