KCJJ (1630 AM) is a radio station licensed to serve Iowa City, Iowa, USA. The station is owned by Steve Bridges' (Soboroff) River City Radio. The station was assigned the KCJJ call sign by the Federal Communications Commission in 1982.[1]

KCJJ broadcast on the AM frequency of 1560 from 1977 until 1998. At 6 p.m. on October 14, 1998, KCJJ signed off 1560. At 9:14 that same night, KCJJ signed on 1630. For a while in 1999 and 2000, the 1560 frequency was re-activated under the call letters KCJK while the FCC fought various lawsuits questioning their requirement to sign off the old frequencies.

Programming

KCJJ broadcasts a news/talk and comedy format plus sports and hot adult contemporary music.[2] The "Double-J"/ "The Mighty 1630" covers much of eastern Iowa and western Illinois. It is one of the few locally owned and operated stations in eastern Iowa. Beginning on September 24, 2007, KCJJ began broadcasting from their new studios in Coralville's Iowa River Landing.

The morning show is hosted by Captain Steve, Tommy Lang, and Tom Suter. Local News is aired hourly and High School Sports are featured nightly. KCJJ is affiliated with CBS and CNN. KCJJ is a weather partner with KGAN, Cedar Rapids. The station also broadcasts the syndicated Lex and Terry Show, The Mike O'Meara Podcast, and NASCAR.

Robb Spewak, long-time member of syndicated radio's "Don and Mike Show" and "The Mike O'Meara Show", and current member of "The Mike O'Meara Podcast", produces a music program for KCJJ on Friday afternoons. [1]. Robb is not paid for producing this music program [2]

KCJJ streams video and audio on Ustream.tv @www.ustream.tv/channel/kcjj-raw.

In March of 2013, KCJJ launched an internet only radio station..99 Plus KFMH, playing rock, blues, and jazz. The original KFMH broadcast from 1973 until 1994. The original deejays returned, as well. It is available on the Tunein app, Ustream.tv and @www.99pluskfmh.com.
