Kwale is the most populous community of the Ukwuani Speaking people of Delta State, Nigeria and is located within the colonial Warri province. Kwale is generally considered a city especially considering it oil and gas reserves which can be utilized to transform the town and neighbouring communities into a modern city. Kwale is host to oil and gas companies, some of which have presence in different parts of the African city such as a gas flow facility which is situated at Ebedei nearby Umukwata area and another at Ebendo and Umusadege with a pipeline running from Aboh and river Ase creeks.[3][citation needed]
There are considerations about the establishment of modular refineries within the area.[4] Electricity generation facility is the only in Delta North. It is located at Okpai within the city of Kwale.
History

Kwale got its name from an anglicized version of Ukwuani, a misspelling by British colonists.
The Ukwuani is one of the three sub groups that make up the Igbo west of the River Niger; the others are Enuani and Ika. [2]
These three sub groups are now collectively regarded as Anioma people (Good Land), geo-politically located in Nigeria's Delta State.
They are known or renowned for their elaborate showmanship during their marriages and funeral rites, it's one ethnic group in the south-south axis whose musical prowess appeal cut across boundaries with their greetings (Aje for men at every time, otofe for women at every time, owuesu for younger females. Alusa for congratulations.)
Within the Western Igbo area, the Ukwuani inhabit the low-lying and swampy area within latitude North 5’ 50 – 70 and Longitude East 6’ – 6’- 50 according to Mallison. In Forde and Jones’ classifications, the Ukwuani people are regarded as Southern Ika Ibo (48).[3]
It comprises fifteen clans, namely Abbi, Akoku, Amai, Ebedei, Emu, Eziokpor, Ezionum, Inam-Abbi, Obiaruku, Ogume, Onicha Ukwuani, Umuebu, Umukwuata, Umutu, Utagba-Ogbe and Utagba-Uno. The name Ukwuani is a topographical construct deriving from their environment. It means low- land dwellers which conform to the Ukwuani way of naming their settlement according to the geographical features.
