Kya Mast Hai Life is a 2009 Buena Vista International television series produced for Disney Channel India. It was released on April 27, 2009, after a special behind the scenes preview on April 25 and April 26. This show is entertaining and humorous portrayal of Teen lives. It talks about their friendship,aspirations,confusions and problems. This show focuses on the lives of five teen friends Ragini, Zeeshan, Zenia, Vir and Ritu. Ragini comes from a rich family whos mother is famous Actress Sushmita Juneja. All her friends don't know that she is the daughter of an actress, but eventually find out after a few episodes. She wants to make friends by her self, and not due to her mother's fame. This show is quite popular among the teen circle.

Plot

Ragini Juneja is a teenaged girl and the daughter of a Bollywood Superstar named Sushmita Juneja. She is a rich girl leading a luxurious and stylish life. But at her new college,"Redfield Academy", Ragini wants the tweens of the college to treat her normally and not as the daughter of the Bollywood Superstar Sushmita Juneja.At her first day of the college, she meets Zenia Khan, Zeeshan Khan , Vir Mehra and Ritu Shah; a gang of inseparable childhood friends. She tells a bundle of lies to them as she wants to join their gang. She lies about her mom being a superstar and says that her mom is a Kindergarten Teacher. She lies she can't sing although she is a trained classical singer because she and Vir were coming closer as they both loved rock music and were singers which upset Ritu very much as she was possesive about Vir and didn't like if he talked to ay other girl.She lies that she doesn't wear designer clothes from Paris like "La Femme" but wears normal clothes stitched by a tailor Himesh who gave 30% discount on stitching cotton clothes on Sunday(He is imaginary). Ragini also lies about her bodyguard Mr.Chotu and says that he is her dad's car's guard. Later, the gang comes to know about her secrets. They are shocked for sometime and think that they can't trust her but realise afterwards that Ragini was a true friend they couldn't afford to loose. They still treat her as any 'normal' friend. Now the story focuses on the Titlis trying hard to find out Ragini's secrets.

Main Characters

Ragini Juneja a.k.a. Rags

Ragini is the protagonist of the show. She is a ugly, little, fat girl. She lies to the gang that her mom is a Kindergarten Teacher, about her designer clothes, about her bodyguard and about her singing skills. She is a trained classical singer but she lies to the gang and says that she is a complete non singer. She also poses as an arrogant behenji Divya who applies loud make-up and can sing well to hide the truth that she can sing. Later she reveals the truth to her friends who forgive her within a short while.

She is extremely helpful and always helps her friends in hard situations. She also boosts their confidence. The Titlis wanted her to be in their group because of her sense of style. In one episode, Rags brought her lucky charm "Porchku". It worked for her, Zenia, Ritu and Zee. She has a bodyguard called Chotu. Her pet word is 'crummy'. She also frequently uses the words 'Boo-boo', 'Coolio','Awesome Blossom', 'Thunder Blunder' and 'Godly God'. Once she had her birthday celebrated in a toilet. She constantly uses the line-'Oh Godly God what do I do now'. She thinks that Paresh bhai is annoying and her best friend is you.

Vir Mehra

Vir loves music. He is the cool cute dude of Redfield Academy who is the heartthrob of the girls. He has the qualities of a rockstar. He treasures his guitar the most and is also crazy about video games. The Titlis, mostly Kimmy have a crush on him, but he finds them annoying. He is in the Science stream and hates Dramatics. His parents are doctors and want to make him a doctor too, but at the sight of blood he faints.He has a good voice and sings with Ragini at the Fresher's Party. He also writes his own lyrics. He is also great friends with Ragini and Zenia. Zeeshan is his best friend who calls him 'Chuddy Buddy'. He likes Ragini's voice when he heard it from a tape. He thinks Ragini sings like Ritu. Right now he admires her talent. Recently, He gifted HIS chocolates to Ragini . He has an aunt named Anita, who is in the Indian Army. He is the President of the music club in College.

Zenia Khan

Zenia is Zeeshan's twin sister who loves to talk. She is Ragini's best friend and was the first one to know about her secret. She is kind of a tomboy and is teased for that. She cannot decide whether she is Zenia "the cool dude" or Zenia "the cute girl". She is fed up with her twin brother Zee who is elder to her by 40 seconds but loves him. She is scared of getting pimples. Ragini and Zenia use the same words when they express their feelings. Zenia was the first person to know that Ragini was Sushmita Juneja's daughter and lives a luxurious life. Jango, the bully of the school is in love with her. She hugged him once when he helped her for getting glitter pens for Ritu! But otherwise she doesn't seem to be interested in him currently. She saves Zee from Jango sometimes. She loves her brother but doesn't show it. There was an instance where she saved Zee from Jango and didn't tell him so that he didn't lose confidence (he thought he forced Jango to his home work himself). Her best friends are Ragini, Ritu, and Vir but she says if she is feed up of her brother too she likes him. It is said that she puts pictures of the Titlis on a dart board and throws darts on them. When Ragini brought her lucky charm and Zenia used it and the guy on whom she had crush spoke to her and she came third in the history test.She likes saying thats cho chweet yes

Ritu

Ritu is the school crybaby. Her friends call her BBB (Bin Baadal Barsaat meaning raining without clouds) and "Barkha Raani". She comes from a joint Gujrati family. She loves to sing. She also likes the Hindi lectures, and is Mandal sir's favourite. She is very sweet and also forgiving. She is often teased by the Titlis, and starts crying because of that! Zenia is her best friend. She is also the Treasurer of the Music Club. It is very difficult for her to say no. She has a secret mad crush on Vir. She is also annoyed with her cousin sister Guddi. She is very responsible in her money matters, and cries even if she loses 1 rupee!

Zeeshan Khan a.k.a. Zee

He is Zenia's twin elder brother. He is elder than Zenia by just 40 seconds. He is a cute, funny and goofy lovable guy. He loves to make up rhyming Raps which end up silly and funny. He is a big flirt. He is highly sensitive and cries easily. He always tries to be cool and uses cool gestures. He keeps using the phrase "It's Very Deep". He is sweet but childish and acts a bit crazy. He annoys Vir but still cares for him. He fights with Zenia all the time but still loves her. He always uses wacky ideas to get out of troubles. Zee always gets locked up in the girl's bathroom by mistake [he calls it his 2nd house] and Ms. D'Souza tells him off. Zenia calls him 'Buttonhead Bro' or 'bee head bro' and he calls her 'Sister Blister' and 'my silly sis'. His best friend is Vir whom he calls 'Chuddy Buddy' and he is afraid of Jango. As seen in the opening credits (where he is giving Rags some flowers), it seems that he has a crush on Ragini. He also likes the titlis.

Sushmita Juneja

She is Ragini's mom. Sushmita is an extremely rich, fashionable and famous Bollywood actress, Model and a Producer too. She is quite talented. She is a lady living a luxurious life. She is self obsessed and beauty conscious. But she loves Ragini more than herself. She seems like a snob, but actually she is quite sweet and humble. She often uses funny words like pumpkin, strawberry, apple-pie, cherry-pie, plum cake, kishmish, choco-pie, cheesecake etc for describing her daughter, Ragini. Zenia was the first one to know that she is Ragini's mother. She is married to Ravi Juneja. In one episode, she comes especially to meet Ragini in an unique get-up of a ghosts, scaring Ragini and her friends!She is also very stupid.

Minor Characters

The Titlis(The Butterflies)

The group of Kimmy, Tia, Ria are the daughters of rich and famous people. Kimmy rules the gang. The titli mania is always crazy and they keep on yelling their heads out and they love Vir and they take bath with mineral water. The group seems that Titlis are crumy.

Ms. Sandra D'Souza

She is the new dramatics teacher of the college. She is somewhat strict. But she is very sweet. She speaks in a mixed dialect of Hindi and Bhojpuri which is grammaritacaly incorrect. She disapproves of Sushmita Juneja, referring to her as a B-grade, third class actress. Unlike Mandal Sir, she does not show partiality to any student. She thinks Sushmita doesn't know a thing about acting or dramatics. She is rather weak in Hindi, she often ends up in jumbling Hindi words.Mr. Mandal usually corrects her. . She is a huge fan of Shakespeare. Her biggest secret is that she uses dentures and no one knows about it. They admire her perfect set of teeth. Mr Mandal, their hindi teacher has a crush on her.

Jango

Jango, the school bully has a crush on Zenia, but hates her brother Zeeshan. Zeeshan often makes him angry & they have a fight. Zeeshan relies on Zenia for getting Jango off his back, Zenia mostly sweet talks him into leaving Zee alone. Then Jango leaves Zeeshan alone and offers her milkshake or coffee to have a date with her. Zenia normally screams at him and he disappears. He keeps using the word "Shut Up" especially to Zeeshan. He is scared of Chhotu. In an episode, after Zeenia hugged him, he became so happy, that even though Zee and he collided, he happily helped Zee, hugged him, and called him "My bro!" In the serial, he wears fake arms and stomach to make him look big. He is ugly. SHADAAP! is all he can say. If you dont like Jango, he'll make tiger sounds at you. Then you will have to SHADAAP! Jango looks around to see who's watching before he makes stinky squeaky fart noises. Himesh Reshmaiya

Mandal Sir

He is the Hindi teacher of Redfield Academy and always speaks pure Hindi. He sports a moustache and is quite old fashioned. He is scared of Mr. Chhotu. He hates it when someone can't pronounce Hindi words correctly and bores them with huge lectures. He has a major crush on Ms. D'Souza and writes poems for her. He loves her smile and doesn't know that she is using dentures. He is also a huge fan of Sushmita Juneja.

Recurring Characters

Paresh Bhai

Paresh Bhai is Ritu's cousin who is elder to her. He uses a Gujrati dialect and wears colorful shirts. He loves to eat especially samosas. He is quite nagging and always tries to be cool. He has a crush on Ragini who finds him annoying and weird. He does not speak English.

Ramu Kaka

He is Vir's second help. He treats Vir and Gang like little kids. He forces them to drink their milk everyday. He keeps attending Zeeshan and Zenia's parent's calls. He always embarrasses Zeeshan by treating him like a toddler. He wears huge spectacles and is bald. He does not need spectacles because he eats carrots everyday.he also speaks in a singsong under tone and always questioning zee the tree "chaddi badla ki nahi"

Mr.Chotu

Chotu is Ragini's bodyguard, who sometimes attends college to give her things and to guard her. His voice his high pitched and he sounds like a mouse. He is Zee's new best friend. Jango the school bully and Mandal sir are scared of him. Mr. Chotu makes cow noises. I am very proud of these noises. Mr. Chotu wears clothes.Rags once told her friends that he was the gaurd of the body her father's car.

Production

The series draws insights from Disney's KidSense 3, an in-depth qualitative study on teens unveiled by the channel earlier this year.

Antoine Villeneuve, senior vice-president and managing director, Walt Disney Television International India, says, "Teens today are wise and wired. Kya Mast Hai Life follows Disney Channel's philosophy of reflecting them, their families, their universe in an entertaining, safe and family inclusive environment ." The channel has commissioned production house SOL to produce the show.

Fazila Allana, managing director, SOL said, "We are excited about producing our first fiction show with a leading teen and family television brand like Disney Channel. SOL is well known for its expertise in non-fiction programming and television events. We look forward to establishing similar success with Kya Mast Hai Life in the fiction genre."
