The episodes from the sixth season of the anime series Naruto: Shippuden are based on Part II of the Naruto manga series by Masashi Kishimoto. The sixth season began airing on June 11, 2009 on TV Tokyo in Japan.[1] They are centered around Sasuke Uchiha who after killing his teacher Orochimaru, forms his team known as "Hebi", in order to find and kill his older brother, Itachi Uchiha, in revenge for the Uchiha clan's destruction. It also features two arcs focusing on Kakashi Hatake and Jiraiya's backstories. The episodes are directed by Hayato Date and produced by Studio Pierrot and TV Tokyo. The season is referred to by its DVDs as the chapter of The Teacher's Prediction and Revenge.[2]

On January 2, 2009 Viz Media and Crunchyroll began providing subtitled Naruto: Shippuden episodes.[3] Viz have stated the English dub will air sometime in the near future, and dubbed episodes will begin airing on Disney XD October 28, 2009.[4][5]

This season uses five musical themes: two opening themes and three ending themes. "Hotaru no Hikari" (ホタルノヒカリ) by Ikimono-Gakari is used as the opening theme from episode 113 to episode 128, continuing its usage from the previous season. It was replaced in episode 129 with "Sign" by FLOW. The first ending theme is "Shinkokyū" (深呼吸) by Super Beaver used for only the first three episodes of the season. "My Answer" by Seamo was used as the ending theme for episodes 116-128. It was replaced in episode 129 by "Omae dattanda" (おまえだったんだ) by Kishidan. The third feature movie, Naruto Shippūden 3: Inheritors of the Will of Fire, which is based on the Naruto: Shippuden series, was released on August 1, 2009. The broadcast versions of episodes 119 to 124 include scenes from the movie in the opening themes, while still retaining the music "Hotaru No Hikari" by Ikimono Gakari.
