Luminița Anghel (Romanian pronunciation: [lumiˈnit͡sa ˈaŋɡel]; born 7 October 1968 in Bucharest) is a Romanian singer-songwriter, TV personality, and known hostess. Anghel, along with the percussion band Sistem, represented Romania at the Eurovision Song Contest 2005, with the song Let Me Try, where they were ranked third in the final, Romania's best ever result at Eurovision. In the semi-final, held two days before the final, Romania was ranked first, with 235 points.

Life and career

Born on 7 October 1968, in Bucharest, Luminița Anghel graduated The Folkloric Art School, The Canto and Slow Music section. In 2005, she graduated as well, The Sociology and Psychology Faculty on The Spiru Haret University in Bucharest. Since childhood, she fell in love with music, and start singing at the age of 8. From that moment on her musical career knew a continuous ascension, supported by her exceptional voice and completed by Luminița’s ambition and restless work, for continuously improving her performance.[1]

Now Luminița is the most appreciated voice in Romania, and a famous international artist, as a recognition for her talent. Her portfolio includes many national and international trophies and recognitions such as:[1][2]

  1. 2005 – The Third Place at The Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv, Ukraine, after a spectacular performance with the unconventional group of percussions Sistem, for the single Let me Try;
  2. 2003 – The First Place for The Best International Interpret, at The International Festival Voice of Asia;
  3. 2003 – The second Place at The International Creation Festival, in Cairo, for the single “I ask you Why”.
  4. 2002 – The first place and the trophy for The Best International Voice in The Festival ”Song For Europe”, in Malta;
  5. 2002 – The First Place and The trophy for the Best International Voice at The “Descovery” in Bulgaria;
  6. 2002 – The Jury’s special price and the third place for The Best Voice in the Universtalent Festival in Prague
  7. 2001 – The First Place for The Best Interpret and the price of fans in the International Festival “Golden Stag Festival
  8. 1995 – The Third Place at The National Mamaia Festival;
  9. 1993 – The First Place and the trophy at The national Festival Mamaia, which was her first major recognition.

Private life

Luminița Anghel got married to her partner, Silviu Dumitriade, in a private civil ceremony, in the Mangalia beach, in Romania, in October 2011. The couple got married once again this time in a Christian Orthodox[disambiguation needed] religious ceremony in Spain at 20 March 2012.[6]

Eurovision 2010

Luminița Anghel, along with Tony Tomas and Adrian Piper participated in Selecția Națională 2010 on 6 March 2010. They presented their song "Save Their Lives" in a bid to represent Romania at the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest.

Eurovision 2013

In 2013, Anghel attempted to represent Romania, entering Selecția Națională with the song "Unique." Her song placed third overall.[7]

Political career

At the 2008 Romanian legislative election, she was a Social Democratic candidate[8] for a Bucharest seat in the Chamber of Deputies;[9] she lost to Elena Udrea.[10]
