New York College of Health Professions is a leading institution in holistic health care and education that is recognized worldwide. Chartered under the New York State Board of Regents[1] as a non-profit college, it is part of the University of the State of New York[2] and offers institutionally accredited undergraduate and graduate degree programs. It is located at 6801 Jericho Turnpike in Syosset, Nassau County, New York with additional locations in New York City.
New York College was the first college in New York State to offer a Massage Therapy college degree program[3] and the first to offer a state approved program in Acupuncture Education[4]. Its Holistic Nursing Continuing Education Program for RNs was the first clinical holistic nursing program in the US. It is also the only private, institutionally accredited college of its kind in the New York Metropolitan Area.[5] Commencement ceremonies have included noteable keynote speakers such as Shirley MacLaine and Al Roker.

The main campus, located on Long Island in Syosset, New York has a 70,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility with classrooms and teaching clinics fully equipped for practicing today’s Integrative health and holistic health care modalities. This facility also houses one of the largest holistic health care centers in the Northeast. Open to the public, this center includes Academic Teaching Clinics where student interns get extensive hands-on experience treating real patients with Swedish and Asian massage therapy, acupuncture, and herbal medicine. In addition, the facility’s in-house holistic herbal dispensary is stocked with hundreds of herbs and holistic remedies from all over the world and is an important adjunct to both the classes and the health care center.
Day and evening courses are also offered at locations in Manhattan including The Riverside Church[6][7][8] on the upper west side, University Settlement[9][10] in the SoHo/ Chinatown area, and the NY Open Center in midtown. In addition, New York College owns a modern 35 acre facility in Lou Yang, The People's Republic of China, where students, their families and friends of the college can visit and study.
[edit] National Institutionally Accredited Degree Programs
Fully accredited undergraduate degree programs are offered in Massage Therapy, Advanced Asian Bodywork, Acupuncture, Oriental Medicine, and Herbal Medicine. The Graduate School of Oriental Medicine offers 3-4 year combined Bachelors/Masters degrees that are also accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM)[11]. Certificate programs are offered in Physical Arts, Yoga, Reiki, Qi Gong and T’ai Chi.
[edit] Continuing Education and Other Programs
New York College of Health Professions is also an approved provider of nursing continuing education[12] by the New York State Nurses Association[13] and has held holistic nursing programs at Bellevue Hospital, Beth Israel Medical Center, North Shore LIJ, and others in the greater New York Metropolitan Area. In 2007, the College was awarded a New York State DOH Health Workforce Re-Training Program Grant to teach the nurses at Bellevue Hospital[14] holistic modalities that could be use in patient care.
One unique offering at New York College is a certificate program in “The Science of Self Improvement.” The course is based on a book of the same name[15] written by the college’s chairman and published by Random House in the U.S.[16] and Citic Press in China.[17]
[edit] Patents, Intellectual Properties and Art Portfolios
New York College has been on the cutting edge of holistic health care technology as substantiated by the significant patent portfolio donated to the college. Its intellectual properties include patents for LED lighting technology that kills airborne germs by attacking their DNA structure (U.S. Pat. 7,514,696 B2), Acupressure Clothing U.S. Pat. 6,763,525 B1, patents in AromaTherapy, as well as consumer products in health care, software, and communications and programs for first responders. Appraisals on some of the patents and objects of art donated to the college and adorning the halls and lobby, estimate a combined value of over thirty million dollars.

For over 30 years New York College of Health Professions, its board members, advisors, faculty and students have represented the brightest and best in the innovative field of Integrative Health. As a non-profit organization, the mission of College is education and service to the community. The college’s continued growth and increasing community of alumni and e-college students will expand the delivery of improved lifestyles for both its students and those they heal utilizing the both the modalities taught at New York College and the technologies licensed or developed through the College.
