Other references[edit]

In the highly popular Japanese video game Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse, the main character Yuuya Bridges is based on Maverick even being given the nickname "Top Gun" as reference to the movie. Yuuya was also responsible for the death of his squad commander due to a miscalculation during a test flight, which is also a reference to the death of "Goose".
