[edit] Biography

[edit] Family and birth

Her older siblings are Princess Elisabeth of Belgium, Prince Gabriel of Belgium and Prince Emmanuel of Belgium. She is the thirteenth grandchild of Albert II, King of Belgium, including the two children of the king's alleged illegitimate daughter, Delphine Boel. The princess was born at 4h50 at the Erasmus Hospital in Anderlecht. She weighed 3.2 kg and was 50 cm long at birth.[1][2]

She was baptised on 14 June 2008 in the chapel of Ciergnon Castle in the Belgian Ardennes, by Cardinal Godfried Danneels, the Archbishop of Mechelen-Brussels. Her godparents are Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, Princess Claire of Belgium, and Count Sébastien von Westphalen zu Fürstenberg.[1]

[edit] Names

  • Eléonore - is a name her parents liked, as it means 'true and perpetual beauty', and it kept the tradition of El-/-el names in the family.
  • Fabiola is for her great-aunt, Queen Fabiola of Belgium.
  • Victoria is for her godmother, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden.
  • Anne is for her maternal grandmother, Countess Anna d'Udekem d'Acoz.
  • Marie is for the Virgin Mary, as per tradition with Catholic royalty. It is also the second name of her maternal grandmother.

[edit] Arms

Dr. Gustaaf Janssens, Archivist of the Royal Palace, confirms that HRH Princess Eléonore's coat of arms as Princess of Belgium consist of the gold lion on a black background on a lozenge ensigned with the royal crown.
