Rhys Gregory Tolhurst (born 14 June 1994) is an Australian singer-songwriter who is best known for his appearance as a Finalist on Series 6 of the Australian Television Series, "Australia's Got Talent". His style is Pop.[1]

Early life and education

Rhys Tolhurst was born in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia on 14 June 1994. He was adopted when he was 6 weeks old and was brought to Cairns, Queensland where he spent all of his childhood. Rhys grew up as an only child and attended Our Lady Help Of Christians Primary School and Saint Mary's Catholic College.[2] He was then enrolled in Tertiary Education at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University.[3]

Musical influences

Growing up listening to Jazz in high school, Rhys produced his sound from listening to artists such as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Harry Connick Jr. and Michael Bublé. After high school he started listening to Contemporary Music and drew influence from such artists as John Legend, Chris Martin, Guy Sebastian and John Mayer.[4]

Songwriting and artistry

Rhys has been singing since the age of five and has been Songwriting since he was 15. "I always wanted to be in front of people. I discovered music at 15 and never really looked back".[5]

Radio and television

After Rhys was eliminated on Australia's Got Talent, he has been working as an Entertainment Presenter on Seven News and is part of the breakfast team at Zinc 102.7 in Cairns.[6][7]

On May 20, Rhys uploaded a cover of Fleetwood Mac's track, Rhiannon[8] on Soundcloud, and on June 2, 2015 a video cover of Grouplove's song Tongue Tied[9] on his RhysTolhurstOfficial YouTube account.
