Robert Malcolm McInnes (born 1963[1]), also known as Sifu Robert McInnes or Sifu McInnes, is a New Zealand former martial arts practitioner.[2][3]

Life[edit]

McInnes founded the Sir Gee Dorr Kung Fu Schools in New Zealand, which he ran between 1980 and 1991. In 1988, a 17-year-old student, Jason Dooley, drowned during one of McInnes' training exercises, when he forced a group of students to swim in the Waiwera River while shooting a firearm in their direction.[1][4] Following Dooley's death, McInnes was criticized for what was deemed extreme training exercises, including having students shave their heads and swear allegiance to him.[5] McInnes was not charged for Dooley's death, but in 1989 he was sentenced to "10 months' periodic detention for discharging a weapon likely to endanger the life of his students".[5]

In 1992, McInnes immigrated to Thailand.[1]

In 2010, McInnes was charged with impersonating a SWAT officer in Pattaya, Thailand, and illegal possession of a firearm.[1][6][7]

Business[edit]

McInnes is founder of The World Kumite Organization (WKO) and Shorin Kempo Kaikan.[8][9] He owns company ISS Corporation Co.,Ltd Thailand.[10]
