San Diego Boca FC is an American soccer team based in San Diego, California. Founded in 2009, the team plays in National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), a national amateur league at the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, in the Northwest Division.
The team plays its home games at Balboa Stadium on the campus of San Diego High School in downtown San Diego, California.[1] The team's colors are dark blue and gold.
History [edit]
San Diego Boca FC was founded in 2009 by Yan Skwara and Souheil Jawad. San Diego Boca FC was named after Boca Juniors from Argentina out of the repect of their 100 year old history and their traditions and values. The club sought out Mexican/American Head Coach Papo Santos, who coached for Skwara in the USL to reunite the two back on the field. Santos' familiarity with the San Diego Community and its players have created a community based soccer team with many local players.
Boca played their first exhibition match against Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz on February 2, 2010, Major League Soccer's Chivas USA. Boca played their first NPSL league match on April 3, 2010, a 3-2 loss to Real San Jose.[2]

Rivalries [edit]
San Diego Derby [edit]
The San Diego Derby is an annual contest that has developed between San Diego Boca FC and their crosstown rivals the San Diego Flash.[3] The derby was first contested between the two teams on the Flash's entry into the National Premier Soccer League in 2011. The rivalry however has its roots in the management of the former Flash franchise which played in the A-League and ceased play in 2001, with both the current Flash ownership and the SD Boca ownership group having come from fractious portions of the A-League team's ownership.
