Southern is one of the districts of Botswana. The capital of Southern district (Ngwaketse district) is Kanye, home to the Bangwaketse. It is one of the largest growing villages in Botswana. There are also other large villages in the southern district like Mushopa home to the Bakgatla-ba-ga Mmanaana, and Goodhope, home of the Barolong. The Southern district (Ngwaketse district), is home to Botswana’s second largest beef farmers where there are large private owned ranges, and a multiple of government run beef ranges which help provide agricultural support to the local farmers. There are also arable farmers that produce maize and sorghum, Botswana’s staple crop. Southern district is where the third diamond mine of Botswana was found (the Jwaneng diamond mine), which produces the precious gemstone that has and is holding Botswana’s economic state of prosperity.

In the south, Southern borders the North West Province of South Africa. Domestically, it borders the following districts:
