Defining the Grand Prix[edit]

Hello. I notice that there have been a significant number of recent edits which were probably made in good faith but are in this case wrong. The ATP's calendar has a way of misleading Wikipedia editors into thinking that all the tournaments it lists for a particular year were part of the Grand Prix, but this is completely untrue - the ATP didn't administer the Grand Prix until 1990, when it became the ATP Tour, and as a result it lists all the tournaments that it sanctioned, and not just the ones that were part of the Grand Prix. If you want to put the WCT tournaments into a calendar, please do so on a separate page, but they were not part of the Grand Prix and any attempt to say they were will be reverted. The same is true of tournaments listed on the ATP calendar that appear to been independent of the Grand Prix and WCT and of edits made for 1973 and 1975.

How do I know that the tournaments listed were part of the Grand Prix? Simple - I possess a copy of a reasonably reliable source - namely the relevant yearbook from this series of books which tells me so. If you can find a source which says otherwise, please share it with the WikiProject because it will be very useful in filling in the gaps.

Sorry to go on a small rant, but it is misleading information like this that gives Wikipedia a bad name. Totalinarian (talk) 13:14, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

1974 Salt Lake City Open missing results[edit]

Hi the 1974 Salt Lake City Open results are missing from this article the 1974 results are here: http://www.atpworldtour.com/en/scores/results-archive?year=1974&tournamentId=2039. can someone included them.--Navops47 (talk) 06:37, 11 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Navops47, the Salt Lake City Open was not part of the Grand Prix circuit in 1973 and 1974 but was one of the events on the USLTA Indoor Circuit organized by Bill Riordan. Riordan was also Connors' manager which is why he often played in these events. The USLTA Indoor Circuit was held in the winter months, before the Grand Prix circuit started.--Wolbo (talk) 10:45, 11 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
So its inclusion on the ATP site is incorrect?--Navops47 (talk) 10:48, 11 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Not incorrect per se, but they were different circuits. The ATP site shows the sanctioned tournaments for 1974, not just the Grand Prix circuit events. As you can see the 1974 tournament archive also lists the World Championship Tennis (WCT) tournaments which were also a separte circuit that year.--Wolbo (talk) 11:15, 11 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
