Jim McLean statement[edit]

I am not sure that the statement "In February, Jim McLean announced he would resign as manager at the end of the season" does not sound as good as it might, and could be (unintentionally) misleading. Essentially, I think "resign" is the wrong choice of word as it, to me, suggests leaving the club possible to become a manager elsewhere. In fact he of course stayed on as chairman and was giving up his managerial career. My memory is it was said that he would "retire" from management (to concentrate on his role as chairman and managing director). In the Jim McLean article the phrase "stepping down as manager" is used and I wonder of this is better. However I would welcome the thoughts of other editors.
