"the ill-fated First Walcheren Expedition of 1794."[edit]

The link is to the 1809 Walcheren Expedition.

It may be the author confused Walcheren with the Duke of York's "ill=fated" campaign in Flanders and Holland.

There was no Walcheren Expedition of 1794 as such. In September 1794 an expedition was sent under the command of Major General Lord Mulgrave in order to occupy the Dutch province Zealand. The force concentrated at Flushing on Walcheren where Lord Mulgrave was ordered home and the 78th, 79th, 80th, 84th, and 85th Regiments were sent to join the Duke of York's army which at that point, having been forced to withdraw from Flanders in the summer, was pulling back behind the river Waal at Nijmegen.
