Three questions[edit]

1. Rather than specifically Manchester, isn’t the film set in a fictional Lancashire town?

2. Isn’t one powerful factor in the mutual antipathy of Mrs Rothwell and Vic that of class, she being lower middle class and despising his respectable working class roots?

3. Isn’t another crucial area of contention between both Mrs Rothwell and Ingrid on the one hand and Vic on the other that of culture, they both being ignorant and addicted to vacuous TV quiz shows while his family go to concerts and love the music of Verdi?
