Didn't he just sing schlagers? The word schlager may sound a bit disrespectful and undervalues his songs, but the term may clarify a lot to the average English language reader. Andries 22:38, 3 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not quite a traditional schlagersinger: his contribution lies in his update of the genre by adding a tougher pop/rock sound to it.MackyBeth (talk) 18:25, 12 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The club he supported[edit]

I heard rumors that André Hazes was a Feyenoord supporter,is this true?

Haha, very untrue... says who? Now that is disrespectful to say about an 'Amsterdammer' anyways i believe it was a club from Amsterdam? ;-) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.134.170.125 (talk) 17:48, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Questionable statements[edit]

"The song became very popular in the Netherlands, to the extent that most people could sing along with the lyrics, a feat in a country where few can recite more than the first two lines of the national anthem, the Wilhelmus."

My experience of the Dutch is that, given a few drinks, most of them will sing along (word perfect) to every Dutch language hit from the last 50 years! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Skinsmoke (talkcontribs) 00:37, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

True, Dutch people are known for 'singing along' and the Dutch Anthem has 13 (?) verses, but only the first is sung at official events and gatherings, so no wonder.

"Even though André Hazes had a #1 album with Gewoon André ("Just André"), it is very difficult for music in the native Dutch language to enter the Top 40 and posthumously he was one of the few artists to achieve this."

Absolute nonsense! Look at any list of the top hits of the last 30 years and it is full of Dutch language songs. They also tend to stay in the charts for longer than Anglo-American releases. Skinsmoke 00:43, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Very true, there are many Dutch language songs in their top40 chart!
