"The Port"[edit]

I've made some edits the history and origin of the name. I grew up in Cambridge and the "the Port" is still a well-used term by Cambridge natives to refer to the area. Recently there have been moves in the Cambridge City Council to "official-ize" the Port as the neighborhood's name in planning documentation. There are already organizations and events that use "Port/Area IV" as a catch-all term for the area, for example the "Port/Area IV Pride Day"[1], as well as longstanding attempts to change the neighborhoods. There is also a socioeconomic discussion to be had about the name, the Port has generally been a working-class area and many see the loss of their name as a "hijacking" and feel the brunt of the folk etymology that Area IV was derived from a police district name. I deleted the reference to the police zone in this spirit, but I'm not intending to comment otherwise. Anyways, here are some sources[2] [3] [4] and here's a project courtesy of the Cambridge Historical Commission called "We are the Port"[5]. Please feel free to edit for grammar, but I move that the distinction between the Port and Area IV names should be kept.
