The interesting part of this case was that the judge allowed an appeal and gave them a deadline, which was 17 days later. However, the law states a 14 day limit. The appeal was filed after 16 days but the prosecutor successfully got the appeal thrown out citing the 14 day deadline. Justice Souter called this "bait and switch".
