Brands: notable omissions...[edit]

Volkswagen Group brands (inc. Volkswagon, Porsche, Audi) seem to not be bothered, as are Fiat (inc. Alfa Romeo), nor Renault – anyone find that strange, given all the other main players are there? Also luxury companies like Aston Martin, Maserati (also, Fiat-owned), et al, are not here – again strange as surely those with money to buy such cars are highly likely to own iPhones in a high percentile? (maybe they want to sell super-expensive super-high-end stuff at high margins, lol!) Jimthing (talk) 19:13, 3 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

VWG brand Volkswagon now added, with source. ;-) Jimthing (talk) 00:57, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Article should be clear that CarPlay is not actually a new OS[edit]

It is my understanding that CarPlay is a specification and a wrapper that runs on top of the native car control OS. CarPlay is not an actual new OS from Apple. This should be expanded on in the wiki. 74.92.45.202 (talk) 20:23, 4 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It does this already, it doesn't make any mention of being a new OS. Jimthing (talk) 21:09, 4 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

iOS or "QNX in the car" ?[edit]

Not quite. It's more like the car's infotainment head unit -- which may (or perhaps may not) be QNX based -- provides a window for CarPlay (which runs on the user's phone -- i.e., iOS, decidedly not QNX-based) to display content and interact with the user. OSNews and other sources seem to be confused on this point. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.104.124.43 (talk) 04:44, 13 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Manufacturer's Question[edit]

In one section it says "On March 9, 2015, during the Apple Watch event, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced that all of the major car manufacturers had committed to delivering CarPlay in their cars by the end of 2015." However, in the list of supporting manufacturers, Toyota is clearly not listed. So Toyota is not a "major car manufacturer"? DevRockinAZ (talk) 08:06, 11 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

All major auto manufacturers? Nope...[edit]

Tesla must now be considered a major auto manufacturer, as the company has sold over 1 million cars in both 2021 and 2022 and is on pace to do so in 2023 as well. Tesla vehicles do not support any third party driving assistance systems like CarPlay and Android Auto, only Tesla's own software. (And Steam games!) Apple's site still claims that all major auto manufacturers support CarPlay (as read on 2 April 2023), but their statement is incorrect. Mdulcey (talk) 17:14, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
