Taxonomy Section[edit]

I am confused by the taxonomy section of this article: it says that Nigorobuna is commonly regarded as Carassius Auratus Grandoculis. It then says that FishBase recognizes this as a separate species, and cites this link http://www.fishbase.se/summary/Carassius-cuvieri.html which is talking about Carassius cuvieri or the Japanese white crucian carp, a widely acknowledged species distinct from the common goldfish (Carassius Auratus). e.g. WoRMS recognizes Carassius cuvieri http://www.marinespecies.org/aphia.php?p=taxdetails&id=1021969. Why is a source about C. cuvieri used to suggest that fishbase recognizes C. Grandoculis as a separate species? Or is it intended to say that C. Grandoculis is really a variety of C. Cuiveri? Sorry for my confusion, its just I can't find any mention of "Grandoculis" or "Nigorobuna" or "Funas" at that link at all. --HighFlyingFish (talk) 08:50, 30 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@HighFlyingFish: Yes this was a clerical error, I probably lifted the syntax from the C. cuvieri page and forgot to modify this to {{FishBase|Carassius|Auratus}} to make it link correctly to the auratus page.[1].

The point I was trying to make was that FishBase failed to mention "grandoculis" or "nigoro-buna", and thus apparently did not endorse it as a subspecies. Therefore, you were actually expected NOT to find ""Grandoculis" or "Nigorobuna" or "Funas" at that link at all"

I should probably add that although there is no mention given in FishBase's current auratus page, something about "nigoro-buna" or "grandoculis" must have been mentioned in a species or subspecies page in the past (the 2009 version viewed 2010-12-03, to be more precise. Page not specified however [2]). It seems this possibility is something that has eluded you. --Kiyoweap (talk) 12:26, 10 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
