One reader's complaint[edit]

Resolved in Feb. 2011. -Wikid77 16:42, 29 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A friend of mine sent me the following:

"I'm so madd.... This is the only entry about clones, and is shockingly a near-homophobic description of a major characteristic of the retro age.... Can you tolerate this kind of bullshit? I can't. But it's out there for everyone to accept as the truth.

"Whoever wrote this either had an unspoken agenda or severe psychological problems (or probably both), as well as a lack of insight. The only footnote is to the Tom of Finland Foundation. I know TOFF would not approve this entry.... Wikipedia has indicated it has previously received questions about the neutrality of the entry. Oh, really? Perhaps Mein Kampf would also have gotten similar 'questions' about neutrality....

"Unfortunately, I was not a clone, certainly not from the Castro; but if I were, I could not be more upset. And I remember a late friend who was a 'Castro clone': born here, later moved to the Castro, and then returned here when I met him. This is an insult to his memory....

"This totally f*cked up entry, unfortunately assumed to be accurate, even gets around to dissing twinks, but still gains no sympathy from me. After all the bullshit about clones, we know where it's coming from."

This is the encyclopaedia anyone can edit, so get your annoyed friend to set up an account and improve the article. (talk) 09:34, 27 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
In part of the message that I edited out, the complainer stated that he does intend to work on improving the article. --Jdsteakley (talk) 06:17, 3 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

-- I read the above complaint on a chat board, and it refers to the state of the article -before- I did some editing on the article. I hope my edits helped make things better. --PaulMmn — Preceding unsigned comment added by Paulmmn (talkcontribs) 00:56, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you for helping. There are so many thousands of articles which need to be updated, even in 2011, while many of us have never heard of these topics ("Chelsea clone"?), so we cannot fix them all fast enough. -Wikid77 (talk) 16:42, 29 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Helpful to me[edit]

Well, I learnt something from this page. Heard someone use the term in context of Freddie Mercury's look at Live Aid concert, and looked it up because I wondered what Cuba or Fidel Castro had to do with it (did they admire Castro's moustache or something?) So found out that it refers to an area of San Francisco where the look was supposed to come from. Had heard the usage "clone" before to refer to a masculine gay look, but not the full phrase. --PaulHammond (talk) 10:53, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
