Vellalas[edit]

Just a few points here.. the Govi supremacy myth maybe correct but why include the Vellalas here. The Ponnambalam-Cumaraswamy family's rise has nothing to do with the status of the Vellalas in Jaffna or Sri Lanka.

Read the Pre-British texts such as Vaipava Malai and Kailaya Malai. They make clear how the Vellala role shaped up in Jaffna. It has nothing to do with the Brits or Colonials. Read the Sri Lankan Vellalar section and make up your mind. Rest Assured, Ponnambalam-Cumaraswamy family are not the reason for the influence of Vellalas.

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for your comments. The Ponnambalam-Coomaraswamy section was based on Jayawardena Kumari 2000 Nobodies to Somebodies - The Rise of the Colonial Bourgeoisie in Sri Lanka, Peebles Patrick 1995 Social Change in Nineteenth Century Ceylon and Vythilingam M. 1971 The life of Sir Ponnambalam Ramanathan Volume I
