Feedback for Wikipedia assignment[edit]

I'm a student at WashU, and as part of the Behavioral Ecology 2024 Wiki Education Assignment, I wanted to give you some feedback on this Wikipedia page. I've sent in a Google document with edits regarding this article to the Wiki assignment, but overall, my suggestions centered around some grammatical comments in addition to considering some rearrangement of ideas to make it flow better. Overall, it was very informative and well-written, and I enjoyed learning about the beetle. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mikakipnisuser (talkcontribs) 04:46, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Description[edit]

This article should include a general description of these beetles, including details such as size, shape, color, and what distinguishes males from females. A general description of the eggs, specifically including size, is also important to gain a better understanding of how the beetle larva that eventually hatch are able to chew into tree bark. Wiki Education assignment: Behavioral Ecology 2024[edit]

This article was the subject of a Wiki Education Foundation-supported course assignment, between 16 January 2024 and 25 April 2024. Further details are available on the course page. Student editor(s): Croujay (article contribs).

I added information on the citrus long-horned beetle regarding habitat, geographic range, diet of both adults and larvae, parasitic behaviors, and olfaction (particularly regarding the chemoreceptors/ pheromone receptors of the citrus long-horned beetle). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Croujay (talkcontribs) 03:55, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Revisions[edit]

Generally, I fixed major syntax and grammatical errors as there were initially a lot of run on sentences that were difficult to follow. Also broke up large chunks of text in the Habitat and Olfaction sections and combined info from the Habitat and what was previously Other past sightings section to create one new Geographic Distribution section. Added citations where they were lacking Hipper2305 (talk) 14:49, 9 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Opinion[edit]

This article has the underpinnings for a fantastic Wikipedia entry on the Citrus long-horned beetle. While it is still in its preliminary stages, I think the general structure and layout flow in an easily understandable manner. I felt some more behavioral information would help in its overall depth, so I added a couple of sections. One section further delves into the role of the Citrus long-horned beetle as a parasite in tree populations in Europe. The other section I added goes into the genetic basis for the Citrus long-horned beetle by way of an investigation of its mitochondrial genome. I felt this was an interesting gateway to a long-lasting discussion on the genetic code of the Citrus long-horned beetle and how it contributes to their morphology and behavioral tendencies.VSimhambhatla (talk) 22:01, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Overall, I enjoyed reading this article. There was a lot of useful information on the beetle such as habitat and food resources. I found it very interesting that females can lay up to 200 eggs, which is very important when considering the impact these beetles have in non-native countries. I added new pieces of information. I included a section on management techniques for these beetles, specifically in four European countries. I included the techniques used and the results of them. I thought this would be a good addition since this article emphasized the problem of these beetles as pests. I also added a new section on the life cycle of the beetles. I thought this would be a useful addition because understanding the timing of when they decide to lay eggs and hatch is important in understanding their behavior. Additionally, I moved around the section about the larvae after hatching to the Life Cycle section. This is because it aligns with the information I added.
