Foundation date[edit]

Undoing THIS edit (again), per citation given. There isn't much to discuss in this case. My edit summaries explain violation of WP:OR; the a YouTube video that isn't a secondary source. Plus contradicts the secondary source given. Mercy11 (talk) 22:19, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The sources provided by me are all primary. How can an interview with the man who created the choir be called "original reseach"? That's laughable. But I'm adding two more references from the university website itself, both confirming the creation date as being 1973. If you're still not convinced, feel free to take it to WP:DISPUTE. —capmo (talk) 23:17, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The sources state 1950s, not 1973[edit]

According to this newspaper, which appears as footnote #2 in the Wiki article, the choir was formed in the 1950s by Professor Falina Rivera, then later reorganized by Father Abel Di Marco. [1]

Here is the quote from that article:

“El Coro de la PUCPR fue fundado en la década de 1950 por la profesora Falina Rivera y luego de un período de inactividad fue reorganizado por el sacerdote Abel Di Marco. Desde entonces, ha sido la voz musical de la institución.”

Secondly, if used as a source, the YouTube video is “original research” (OR) according to Wikipedia policy, and therefore not a qualifying source. But even THIS video states that the Choir was founded in the 1950s. Father Abel Di Marco says it himself, during this four-second interval -- 1:30 - 1:34. [2]

The University Web site did not contradict any of this. It refers to the choir's activities under Father Di Marco, after he reorganized it in 1973 - but it does not contradict, deny or refute what Father Di Marco himself stated: that the choir was originally founded two decades earlier.

When the organizer of the second 1973 choir himself states that the Choir was founded in the 1950s (as he did in the YouTube video), and when the only secondary source (a newspaper article) confirms this, then we must proceed accordingly. For this reason I reverted to the 1950s version.

I believe the YouTube article is a helpful addition, so I will add it directly to the article after posting this note.

If you check all the sources, you will see that the choir commemorated their 30th anniversary in 2003 and their 40th anniversary in 2013. If you make a basic calculation you'll end up with the year 1973. Yes, there was a vocal group in the 1950s, but nobody knows for sure when it was founded or when it ended. The fact is that Father Di Marco re-created the choir when he moved to Ponce in 1973, and they consider that as the foundation year.
    • Further more, let me remind User:capmo, that You-tube, a site which anyone can edit, is not considered a reliable source per Wikipedia policy. He should refrain from adding information to the article unless he cites a reliable verifiable source or his additions will be removed. Tony the Marine (talk) 05:12, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Marine, Youtube is not a site "which anyone can edit" in the same sense than wikipedia. You can't upload videos to someone else's channel. The video I used as reference is provided by the University's official Youtube channel, which makes it an authoritative source. —capmo (talk) 05:45, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I'm keeping the first foundation year as in the 1950s. I hope you guys are satisfied with this solution. Please don't simply revert my edits, it took me time to find the references I added and to make the various other corrections. —capmo (talk) 06:11, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your concern for the "time" you spent is highly unpersuasive, since Mercy11 took the time to create this article and maintain its integrity for over two years. You thought nothing of Mercy11's time when you repeatedly reverted accurate and properly sourced information. This page will continue to be edited on its merits. Sarason (talk) 09:34, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm certainly thankful to Mercy for creating and maintaining the article, but that doesn't make him/her its "owner". My edits were well intentioned; I just wanted to correct what seemed an inaccurate information (the year 1950 is not found in any source), based on information given on the choir's website as well as in various other places. If you check the page history you'll see that I never removed a single reference; it was Mercy who reverted my edits three times in a row, mercylessly removing "accurate and properly sourced information" added by me. Each time I made improvements and included new refs. Regards, —capmo (talk) 12:37, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
