Hi Yak. Sadly, my Dictionary of Archaeology didn't go into more detail. I Googled to try and corroborate the phasing and found this (para 3) which seemed to back it up, so I went with it. To be honest I only wrote the article as a result of fleshing out celt (tool) so I certainly wouldn't object to any emendations you want to make. adamsan 17:46, 8 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Marija Gimbutas - Matriarchy insert[edit]

It seems that there is no fair treatment of the issue of the Gynocentric Old Europe theory espoused by Gimbutas. While she did contribute much to the subject of Proto-Indo-Europeans and has been partly vindicated, to my limited knowledge, on the Kurgan hypothesis, there is no evidence of Matriarchal societies in pre-historic Europe. At best Neolithic Europe was less Patriarchal than Proto-Indo-Europeans. This appears to me to be serving only those who wish to put the hoe/plough in place of the Battle-Axe.

One can be a feminist and treat history objectively without looking through the feminist lens, at least at first.
